Something New

It’s time for something new here. Don’t you think?

When I was younger, my brother used to make fun of me asking me ‘What’s your favorite song this week?” Of course he was assuming I was a little teeny bopper that changed with the cliques. I never was the type to change with others. I’ve always been a very loyal person, even to my music. I’ve had the same favorite band for nearly 3 years now and I’m not interested in moving on any time soon. But then again, they haven’t come out with a new album yet, either.

But the point is, everyone changes. Through their experiences and the people they interact with, they change. Your music style might change over the years, the same way your outlook on life might change. Maybe the things you like to look at would change, too.

Due to this obvious eventuality, I’ve decided it’s time for my website to change. I don’t know how much of me it reflects anymore. I know there are some things that will never change, but their importance to me might. Such as photography. I’ve always loved photography, but I’m no good at it so I don’t even try. But if I don’t try, I’ll never be good. Maybe it’s time for my blog to reflect the things I love, maybe even if I’m not any good at it. Does that make sense?

I know my blog entries are pretty much few and far between, and always (sometimes?) deeper than anyone cares to read. If you’re here and you’re actually reading it.. WOW. But I’ve decided I need to do some things for myself right now, one of which being to completely figure out WordPress. I’ve been taking the lazy way out for so long, now it’s time to do it right. I guess that year or 2 (or 4?) off from blogging, that gap where b2 became WordPress, left me missing a lot.

*sniff* I smell a project.

Complications

Lookie there, I’m back. Isn’t that wonderful? Where have I been? Ugh.

I used to host my domains on a dedicated server because I don’t like to host my own domains on E-Starr for fear that my sites will cause my clients downtime. When my husband was out of work for 4 months, I needed to cut back on expenses so I wouldn’t have to use my savings, so I moved from the dedicated server ($150/mo) to a reseller with another company ($58/3mo).

When they set me up I knew I was on a new server because it said the overall disk space used on the server was 10GB. That’s not much at all, considering they were offering so much. My friend also had a referral link, which made him $85 when I signed up, and he recommended them highly (because he’s so impressed with their website, he hasn’t actually been hosted there).

So then they had a promotion where you could get unlimited space and bandwidth and domains for $5/mo. Yes, I know.. that’s sick. Well, the quality of the server declined almost overnight and I was left with a site I couldn’t navigate. Trying to go through the pages while working on my site was unbearable, so I always thought I’d try again later. I run servers, I know how they can be. After over a month, I said, “That’s enough” and I moved all my accounts to one of my servers that doesn’t have many accounts on it.

During the move some image files were corrupted, so I’ll have to replace them, but all in all I’m very happy about this move. Now I just need to cancel that other account. And I’m very excited to be working on my sites again. I’m giving Lala Land another try, too!

New Layout

Do you guys remember back a couple of months ago when I was trying to find a new template for my site and just nothing was working? Well, the fact of the matter is that, this template (from Small Potato) is just too awesome. So, instead of a new one, I just changed it up again. But I do realize it’s a bit girly, so if you want to see the old one again just go on down there on the left sidebar and change it back to the Hearts theme, which is red.

A big thanks to Jenny, who picked the font colors and set them up. I’m terrible with the finer points. She also pushed me to get this image and put it into the design, so I give her like 30% credit for the whole thing. I hope you all like it. For the 30% of you who won’t like it, go yell at Jenny because it’s really all her fault.

Oh, and thanks for the heads up from Alex on Kadi‘s blog about the theme switcher. It’s really handy. Now I can make a million themes and know they’ll all be used forever.

Guest Blogging

I forgot to mention that I was a guest blogger on The Blog World. I spoke about the importance of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling on a pro blogger site. I also gave a few links to sites that can help you understand the written language a bit better. If you’re interested, please check it out.

What do you think about Guest Bloggers on a blog? The reason I did it is because I wanted to make a post of that sort, but didn’t have my own pro blogger site to do it. I also didn’t feel like it would get the attention it deserved on my personal blog. People do seem to agree pretty well with what I had to say. I was even invited to guest blog again. I was invited a couple of months ago, but personally, I didn’t know that I had much to bring to it. I was very happy to find that this post was well liked and did not offend anyone.
