Forget Cable

I just wanted to update you guys on my dealings with Charter because I think it’s really interesting. Does anyone want to know how Charter cost me over $1,000? I bet you do.

So, let’s see, where did I leave off? I told you about how I called twice and they promised to send someone out. Well, they never did. Finally on Sunday I called them. I got ahold of someone who transferred me to another department. The guy in that department didn’t speak English very well so I asked him to send me to someone else. He told me I’d have to call back, which I did.

I went to the same place and was transferred to that same department. I tried to explain my situation to the lady there who had no clue, and transferred me to another department. Then I spoke to a guy there who transferred me again after he figured out what I was trying to say. At this point I was disconnected.

I called back again and was transferred again. For some reason they have no direct number for the department I needed to talk to. So I told this lady what was going on and she decided to read what was written about my account the first times I called. She came back after about 10 minutes and told me she was still reading, but that she’d be back. 20 minutes on hold and the line gave me a busy signal.

So I called back. I was transferred. I found someone who had a clue and told them I just want them to take their shit back. I’m done. She gave me all the credits ($200 worth) and cancelled the internet. So I took the wireless adapter they sent for my son’s computer and I hooked it into my DSL wireless. FLAWLESS. Everything worked perfectly. It was so amazing. So I was thinking about keeping that adapter ($50) and sending back the other stuff. I decided, first, to look online and see what I could get one for. I found one at Circuit City that was better and cost $10 less, so I went out and bought it and returned all that crap to Charter.

So, how did this cost me money? Well, I went back to my work computer and secure websites (like my Modernbill) wouldn’t load. What? Well.. I had a virus and some spyware that wasn’t there before the cable. I don’t know what the difference was, but when I had the cable it messed me up. So I went out and got a new computer (it’s that time) and I’m working on transferring everything over. It’s a really nice copmuter, though. But I have to agree with the rest of the world, despite it’s beauty, VISTA SUCKS. There, I said it. Did you even read this far?

What’s Going On?

Michael’s new birthday computer is all set up. In fact, I’m on it right now. Not only am I on it, I prefer to be on it. Is there something wrong with that? Maybe. I really don’t like my computer and I love his to death. There’s nothing to do on here, but I keep sitting down at it.

So there’s no way to connect to the internet from his bedroom. I thought about setting it up wirelessly, but I consider myself to be retarded in that area. I called the cable company to complain about my DVR and found out they would give me a deal if I switched over my internet and telephone and it wouls save me $80/yr. Booya, right?

So the guy came and set it up yesterday and it’s the shittiest internet service I’ve ever had. And I’m including AOL in this. Back when you had to dial in 900 times just to connect because it was so busy? Yep. It’s pissing me off. It won’t stay connected and if it does, it spends most of its time at 1Mbps. I called them and they told me it was an incomplete installation and they’d send someone else out. Well, I had to go somewhere and they called while I was gone, so I missed them. I called today and they said they’d try to find time to come out, but definitely by Monday. He also told me that the guy they sent out to set it up wasn’t a high speed tech, so that’s why he botched the job. No kidding..

Other than that, though, everything’s going great. He loves the computer and it’s actually pretty nice. When I bought it I put specific instructions not to install any bullshit on it because I can install it all myself, and I think that’s a major plus. It didn’t have any preinstalled crap weighing it down. It’s pretty fast, too.

Oh, Michael’s birthday party? Well, this post is too long so I’ll have to post it later. But FYI, it was f*cking awesome.

Blog Silence

I found this site from a friends site, One Day Blog Silence. I read it. The purpose is to NOT blog to honor the victims of Virginia Tech. I think it’s truly remarkable how fast people get this shit up. And it’s all just to gain more traffic. That’s what I see in it, anyway.

Rather than blog about your thoughts, your feelings, your own personal reflections on the day.. let’s all just post this image that links to a small site explaining it..

I’m sorry, it looks like exploitation to me.
